Shams Dubai

Context

Shams Dubai supports the vision of H.H Sheikh Mohammed Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai to make Dubai one of the smartest city in the world and implements the Executive Council Resolution 46 of 2014 to regulate the connection of solar energy to Dubai’s power grid. Shams Dubai is DEWA’s first smart initiative to connect solar energy and supports the diversification of the energy mix by promoting the use of clean renewable energy courses.

The program also allows customers to connect their PV systems to the DEWA grid and offset any excess generation from future electricity bills.

While the Program is around distributed generation, it is a component of the DSM Strategy, as it provides electricity customers with another lever to reduce their electricity cost, in addition to pure demand side opportunities.
